WHO, FAO and OIE report shows discrepancies in countries efforts in tackling AMR

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have released a new report, which evaluates countries' responses to a self-assessment survey on their efforts to address AMR in humans, animals, and the environment. In 2015 the Global Action Plan on AMR was established and nearly 200 countries agreed to develop national AMR action plans by 2017.

154 countries out of 194 WHO Member States responded to this second wave of the tripartite national self-assessment survey. 60% of countries have a multisectoral national action plan and 33% have a plan in development but still 7% of countries have made no progress towards developing a national action plan. The report highlights also areas, particularly in the animal and food sectors, where there is an urgent need for more investment and action. Despite the substantial progress that has been achieved in fulfilling the Global Action Plan there is much still to be done.
